Medway Public Schools and the Medway Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) announced that their third annual Trunk or Treat event, held Friday, Oct. 16, drew more than 700 attendees.

Families, school staff, local businesses and community organizations gathered at McGovern Elementary School for the event, which SEPAC described as inclusive. The event had originally been planned for the Medway High School parking lot but was moved to McGovern Elementary because of a rainy forecast. Instead of decorated car trunks, participants set up 31 themed tables in the gym and cafeteria.

SEPAC Co-Chairs Kerry McCarthy and Courtney Murray Marshall organized the event with SEPAC Secretary Trisha Girard. McCarthy said, "Due to the poor weather, the team executed a massive venue shift indoors within just two to three days," and thanked the Medway facilities team, town administration, and the Medway Police and Fire Departments for helping make the move "safe and seamless."

Organizers also credited Assistant Special Education Director John Kelly for helping coordinate the venue change and school custodian David Lavallee for setup and cleanup work.

New this year was a basket raffle, with all proceeds benefiting SEPAC. Local businesses donated items and gift baskets to fund student activities and educational speakers for families. Photographer Tim Rice volunteered to document the evening, and DJ Souza provided music.

Sponsors included Leland Siding, Roofing & Windows, Club Z! Tutoring of Medway, Masters Touch Design Build and Chris' Auto & Truck, along with food trucks C&C Ice Cream, Lania's Italian-American and Caribbean Press. SEPAC liaisons Jen Shaw, Alyssa Sutherby, Jackie Ordrasek and Tatevik Holmgren, and Medway High School sophomore Jackson Haneghan volunteered at the event, along with the Medway-Holliston High School Swim and Dive team and several Medway youth sports programs.

McGovern Elementary Interim Principal Shelby Holt and Superintendent Armand Pires both thanked the facilities team, sponsors and attendees for the event's success.
